How we make our soap

Here at Juliette Home + Body we are passionate about sustainability which is why all our products are vegan and eco-conscious. But we don’t just talk the talk, we also walk the walk.

This week we recycled all the offcuts from our Luxury Soap line (and there were quite a few because we only send the perfect soaps to customers) and gave them a second life as a everyday product. Reducing wastage and creating a circular manufacturing process is imperative to our ethos of sustainability.

In this blog we are going to give you an insight into our production process and what exactly makes Juliette Home + Body unique.

Our soap making process – cold pressed vs hot processed vs melt and pour

There are three methods for making soap: cold processed, hot processed, and melt and pour.

Whilst the melt-and-pour method is the best for beginners, we stay away from it as you have no control over oils present in the final product and thus the benefits of that soap on the skin. Instead, we utilise the cold-pressed method for our bar soaps and the hot processed method for our liquid soap.

Both methods allow us to have full control over every step in the process resulting in a smoother and superior product than what you would find at Coles or Woolies.

For example, we use up to 5 types of oils in our soaps – coconut, castor, olive, rice bran, and shea butter – all of which have unique benefits, see this post for more details. We can add the oil after the soap has saponified (aka thickened) thus retaining the benefits of that oil.

So, you know that when you buy from us, the benefits we claim are true and haven’t been lost during manufacturing. Because of the retained oils, our Luxury Soaps are deeply moisturising and eliminate the need for a post-shower moisturiser – perfect for dry and sensitive skin.

Our ingredients – essential oils

Our Luxury Soaps contain essential oils which add fragrance, moisture, and a range of benefits. Essential oils are extracted from herbs, plants, and flowers through steam distillation which makes them 100% pure and 100% natural. Which is why we love them!

However, a word of warning, essential oils can be harmful if used incorrectly. Always patch test a soap or scrub before using to see if you have an allergic reaction and make sure you source your products from a trusted and knowledgeable producer who knows how to correctly handle essential oils.

Our ingredients – fragrance oils

Our everyday soaps contain fragrance oils, but don’t worry, they are just as beautiful as essential oils. Fragrance oils are synthetic alternatives to essential oils usually made with aromatic chemicals, essential oils, extracts, and resins.

They come in a wider range than essential oils which allows us to experiment and produce soaps such as Cucumber and Melon and Raspberry Lemonade. More experimenting for us and more soap for you! If you are ever unsure of a scent or benefit, then explore our sample sizes before purchasing a full size.

As you can see, we have spent years ensuring our production process is sustainable, a closed-loop, and contains the highest quality ingredients whose benefits are retained in the final product.
